Looking to collect more mounts for Final Fantasy 14? Look no further; these are the six mounts you can collect in FFXIV relatively easily and naturally through gameplay.
Alongside the mounts listed on this post, there are many more available in-game, including mounts that can be bought cheap using the Marketboard, or mounts that can even be obtained using various in-game currencies.
Chocobo
A requirement to ride other mounts, and an adorable chicken-type mount.
Level 20 Side Quest [My little Chocobo].
To be able to ride mounts, the player must have unlocked the use of Mounts, which rewards the Grand Company Chocobo. This can be achieved by completing the Main Story Questline to level 20 and selecting a Grand Company.
The Quest that rewards the ability to ride mounts is the My Little Chocobo quest from the Commander of the Grand Company chosen. The Quest requires the player to earn 200 Grand Company Seals, which can be obtained through various means, such as completing FATEs and progressing through game content, including Grand Company Hunting Logs.
You can purchase or acquire many barding for this mount. Barding is essentially Chocobo-specific armoring that alters the Chocobo’s appearance. This mount also has a Chocobo Saddlebag, accessed in the Character tab. The Grand Company chosen will alter what barding the Chocobo starts with.
MSQ Mounts
These three mounts are unlocked through the Main Scenario Quests
These mounts are great, as they would be unlocked eventually by most players through the main Storylines. I will list the Quest, the rough level at which it’s unlocked (of the MSQ), and include what the mount looks like.
Magitek Armor Mount
Level 50 Main Scenario Quest [The Ultimate Weapon].
The First mount unlocked by MSQ (other than the Chocobo) is the Magitek Armor Mount, which is a suit of Garlean-developed Reaper-class Battle Armor in which the Player rides atop.
The Quest to complete it is the Ultimate Weapon. This is the finale quest dungeon for the Base game, A Realm Reborn, and includes a longer-than-average instance, including non-skippable cutscenes and an end credits on completion.
Bonus animations for the Magitek Armor Mount
There is a further Questline to unlock new actions for the Magitek Armor Mount. The initial Quest is called Magiteknical Difficulties, a Level 50 Side Quest from Slafborn in the Rising Stones.
Black Chocobo
Level 50 Main Scenario Quest [House Fortemps Steward].
This is very similar to the Grand Company Chocobo, essentially colored black and featuring alternative barding; it is a purebred Ishgardian Black Chocobo. Ishgard is the first area unlocked in the first expansion, Heavensward.
The Quest to unlock this is one of the introductory Quests, where the Player is placed into an instance against three enemies. This is a relatively short Quest that takes place in Ishgard.
Manacutter
Level 55 Main Scenario Quest [Into the Aery].
This quest provides the Manacutter, identified as a flight-ready miniature airship mount powered by the realm’s first Corrupted Crystal Engine.
The Quest is effectively a dungeon-based quest, where players have to complete the ‘The Aery’ Dungeon intended for level 55 or higher.
PVP Mounts
These 2 Mounts are some of the earlier attained mounts gained from doing PvP.
Air Magitek Identification Key
Costs 20,000 Wolf Marks [Wolf Mark Vendor].
Firstly, we have the Air Magitek Armor Mount. This is a relatively easy-to-obtain mount, done by gaining 20,000 Wolf Marks, which are earned whenever the player completes a PvP activity. It is highly recommended to primarily use the Duty Roulette for PvP around the time the duties refresh, as the PvP queues are relatively inactive at other times.
The mount can be brought from the Wolf Marks Vendor in the PvP hub, Wolve’s Den.
Fylgja Horn
Costs 5,000 Crystal Marks [Crystal Mark Vendor].
This mount is easily overlooked, as it requires the player to be aware of the PvP Series. This menu can be accessed via the Player vs. Player menu, located in the Character Tab. Clicking Series Malmstones opens a new menu, where the seasonal ‘battlepass’ style claim rewards mechanism can be found once the first 6 Levels have been completed.
Players can buy the Flygja Mount from the Crystal Marks Vendor, also found in Wolves’ Den.
Note – if the player manages to gain 25 levels, they can unlock the Magitek Slasher Identification Key, which unlocks the Magitek Slasher Mount.
