Fallout 4 can be picked up for a bargain on PC, with the price quite often dropping to around 5 dollars. It’s always worth picking up at that price point, as you can easily get at least 100 hours out of it.
It’s even worth picking up if you have a computer/laptop that isn’t capable of running the game efficiently. There are many mods that exist that dramatically increase the performance and FPS of the game by changing shadows, lighting and resolution.
Below, we’re going to list some of these Fallout 4 performance mods currently available for download over at Nexus Mods. If you want to check out some more mod lists for the game, you can view our dedicated area here.
Insignificant Object Remover
As expected, this mod will remove small and minor objects from Fallout 4 which helps improve performance whilst making minimal change to the graphics quality. It mostly removed procedural grass, small stones and rubble and other small items which you won’t usually notice.
Great FPS Boost
This mod is one of the most popular performance mods available for Fallout 4, supposedly increasing the FPS massively. The main way it does this by not only tweaking, but removing most of the in-game shadows. However the mod does a good job of making these changes minimal, and making the game look unplayable.
Fog Remover – Performance Enhancer II
A sequel to Fog Remover, this updated version will remove elements such as Mist, Fog, Dust, Smoke and more from Fallout 4 which not only helps with visual quality, but also with performance. Compared to the first version, this mod reduces the size by 53.35x, and there are also 19 different options available.
Installing this mod won’t improve your performance in-game. However, it will make it load faster. It does this by controling V-Sync and CPU Affinity during the initial loading screen which should make it launch faster. The developer states that this mod works better when using an SSD.
Boston FPS Fix
Performance and lag is most commonly seen in the Boston area, specifically near Diamond City and the Combat Zone. What this mod will do is help reduce the lag in these areas (exterior only). The developer claims that in most cases, they see a typical rise between 10 and 20 FPS in these areas.
Fallout 4 – Performance Textures
As expected, this mod will change Fallout 4’s vanilla textures for both the base game and DLC so that they increase the performance for the game. Unfortunately, graphic quality will be reduced. However the developer states that in return, you can expect up to a 20 FPS boost.
Fallout 4 Performance Optimization
This mod will increase the FPS in Fallout 4 significantly by removing god rays and reducing the shadow quality. These changes are done using .ini files which you will need to replace yourself and edit some settings.
