Survival Mode can be a grueling experience, with no fast travel, quick saving or many more features that you take for granted in normal mode. It’s definitely harder than the normal game, requiring much more decision making.
The survival mode can be improved further though with various mods. Ones which provide immersion, or mods which simply allow you to control every aspect of the mode. That’s why below, we’ve put together a list of some of the best Survival Mods for Fallout 4 on Xbox One.
All the links below link back to Bethesda.net where you can download them on your Xbox One. If you want to read more articles like this, make sure to check out our complete list of Fallout 4 Mods for Xbox One!
Backpacks of the Commonwealth
This mod adds 15 different backpacks to Fallout 4, which have a lot of customization when it comes to both mods and colors. Backpacks of the Commonwealth provide a realistic and immersive way of increasing your carry weight, which is especially for the Survival mode. Accompanying these 15 backpacks is over 50 Workbench mods and over 50 different colors. With these backpacks being on level lists, you might find them being sold or worn by NPCs.
Everyone’s Best Friend Dogmeat
Everyone’s Best Friend Dogmeat allows you to have Dogmeat with you at all times, whilst also having a normal companion such as Codsworth. This means you’ll always have 2 companions following you through the Commonwealth. There’s a few benefits of using this mod in Survival mode. Firstly, you can still trade with Dogmeat meaning you will get the extra carry weight. Secondly, it’s another Companion helping you when it comes to any fights.
Conquests – Build New Settlements & Camping
Conquest allows you to build new settlements anywhere in the game world in Fallout 4 on Xbox One. However, it also allows you to build campsites where you can rest, eat and recharge in survival mode where fast travel isn’t possible. Once you reach the next morning, you can pack up your campsite and carry on with your travels. In survival mode, it could take you quite a few minutes to even half an hour of walking before you find a bed or somewhere to upgrade weapons.
Survival Options
Survival Options is a bit of a cheat mod and makes survival mode much easier in Fallout 4 on Xbox One. It allows you to change how survival works. You can change many options such as allowing fast travel again, saving on wait, cell re-spawn, thirst and hunger and much more. It’s at least reassuring to have this mod as a last resort. You don’t have to enable all the options either, you can choose to just change a few.
Immersive Gameplay 5
The developer of this mod states that its ‘faster, more punishing, less predictable and more immersive’. It makes some changes to AI, slower leveling, base HP changes, greatly improved AI, explosions are now lethal and a few more changes. If you want to make Fallout 4 a little more difficult, especially in survival mode, then this mod is a great start. Some of the ways it does this is by disabling health gain when levelling up, slower levelling and increased health of enemy NPCs such as Super Mutants.
APC Home on the Move
APC Home on the Move provides an immersive way to travel around the map and rest. There are 11 locations to travel to which require fusion cores for immersion. Inside the APC, you will find a bed to rest in, storage containers, workbenches and manual saving. It’s great for suvival mode as you can fast travel around the map in a realistic way, and it’s another player home you can use to rest up and upgrade items.
Campsite
This survival mod for Fallout 4 adds buildable campsites to the Commonwealth, with pieces including tents, sleeping bags, cloth walls, fire, lanterns, cooking pots and a dog bed for dogmeat. These are all new textures and meshes with different camouflages available including Nuka Cola and Vault-Tec themes. This mod provides a very immersive way to rest and cook whilst playing the survival mode, as you just carry items in your inventory.
Winter Overhaul
The Winter Overhaul change the appearance of the Commonwealth by adding snow and a layer of frost. At the moment, it’s purely a cosmetic mod, which means it just changes the appearance of Fallout 4 on the Xbox One. It doesn’t change any stats or survivability. However, it does make playing Survival Mode feel more realistic and adds a new edge. Especially if you’ve already done multiple play-throughs of the game.
Calamity Weathers
Next up is Calamity Weathers, which aims to change the atmosphere in Fallout 4 to have a more gritty and darker feel, similar to the Metro game series. Featuring a graphic overhaul, additional weathers, darker nights, radstorms and more, it works great with the survival experience. With darker nights, you’ll feel more inclined to find somewhere to rest as the wasteland feels more dangerous. New weathers might also force you to seek shelter, especially from radiation storms.
M.R.E’s
Our final Fallout 4 survival mod adds M.R.E’s to the game, which work great in survival mode. Not only do they restore health, but they increase your carry weight by 25 for one hour. Meaning that if you need to carry extra stuff back to base, you can just eat an M.R.E and get going. You can find your first set outside of Vault 111, with more being crafted under the chemistry station.
