Fallout 76 is the first game of the series to have multiplayer support, allowing you to explore the wasteland with friends. You can explore, complete missions and take part in events with not only your pals, but also random people from around the world.
The game also has incorporated voice chat, which at this point uses an open mic system. What this means is that if you have a microphone plugged into your system and enabled, you will be heard by other players no matter what you say.
If you don’t want this, make sure to go into the settings and disable voice chat. There is no push to talk option available yet. However I wouldn’t be surprised if we see one in an update soon.
This post though consists of inviting and adding friends to Fallout 76. This guide is specifically for PC, as it uses the Bethesda launcher over Steam. If you want to check out some more guides for Fallout 76, you can see our dedicated section here.
Adding & Inviting Friends
You’re going to need to head into the Social settings in-game. Look for the button labelled ‘Social’, either on the home screen or in the games settings menu. If you’re doing it from inside the game, you will need to press ESC, then Z to get to the menu.

The social box will pop up, where you can see a list of friends, team mates and recent players. You can choose to invite one of these players to your own game in Fallout 76.

If you want to add someone manually, use the box in the bottom of the social settings to search for their username.
