What is a Battle Pass in Fortnite Battle Royale?

Battle Passes where added to Fortnite Battle Royale during the second season, and are a great way for players to earn some epic loot and rewards. There are 2 variants of the Battle Pass available, one which is free and one that isn’t.

A Battle Pass can be purchased from the tab, costing 950 V-Bucks during Season 2. However it’s possible the price will be higher or lower depending on when your reading this.

At the bottom of the Battle Pass page, it states “Future seasons will be real store money purchases”, indicating that you won’t be able to buy a Battle Pass with V-Bucks in future seasons. Instead they will cost actual cash. This may be frustrating to some players, with skins and other cosmetics already priced quite high up.

Anyhow, as long as you finish every tier of a Battle Pass, you usually get much more of your money’s worth, as you can get some epic rewards.

How does a Battle Pass work?

Battle Passes need to be levelled up to earn rewards, and the levelling system is done in tiers. At the start of the season, you’ll start at Tier 1, and each level will require what I like to call Battle Pass tokens (or battle points), usually around 10 per tier. Your player level and battle pass tiers are not the same in any way.

Tokens/points can be unlocked in a few ways, with the first being levelling up your main level. Each one will provide you with one point by default. However, hitting certain milestones such as Level 10 will provide you with 5 points instead which help you hit higher tiers.

The second way of earning Battle Points is by completing the daily challenges. By default, you are given 2 daily challenges in Fortnite Battle Royale which allow you to get 5 Battle points for each one completed. If you have purchased a Battle Pass, you will also get 1 extra daily challenge. Completing 2 of your daily challenges will allow you to unlock a full tier theoretically.

By pressing the Inspect Challenges button located in the bottom right (or left thumb sti

ck whilst in a lobby), you can choose to swap out a challenge for a new one.

If you’re struggling to get the rewards you want, you can purchase your way into the next tier at a cost of 150 V-Bucks.

What rewards can be earned from a Battle Pass?

Rewards vary from season to season, and whether your on a free pass or paid pass. A free pass will often consist of emotes, gliders and small amounts of V-Bucks. You can take a look at the rewards yourself by checking out the Battle Pass tab in Fortnite.

Once you have hit a tier, the rewards are yours. You don’t have to buy them or anything, they’ll show up in your locker and you’ll still have your items at the end of the season.
