Fortnite is a relatively (or it was at the time of writing this post) new PvE & PvP game released by Epic Games for the PS4, Xbox One and PC. It’s also available on mobile and Nintendo Switch To play it’s PvE mode, you must purchase into it’s early access. However, the Battle Royale mode is currently free on all platforms!
During 2018, Epic Games planned to make the PvE version of the game free to play for everyone. Although that didn’t happen. If you do decide to purchase into the early access, it’s a great way to earn some V-Bucks that can transfer over to the Battle Royale version of the game. You also get a Founders umbrella skin upon winning a game in BR.

Anyhow, in this short guide, we will show you how to get up and running with Fortnite: Battle Royale on PC. If you are a PS4 or Xbox One player, you can pick it up on your in-console game store for free.

Create an Epic Games account
If you haven’t already, you’re going to need to create an Epic Games account. Fortnite is run through the Epic Games launcher. Fortnite is not available on Steam, Origin or uPlay and likely never will be. It’s free and only takes a moment to do so. You just need to have an email address ready. If the link above doesn’t work, just head here and choose ‘Play free now’.

Any other games that Epic release can also be played through the Epic launcher. If you already own an Epic Games account, skip to the next step.
Choose a display name, this is what your character will be called in Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode. You may also need to confirm your account by heading to your email.
Download Fortnite
You can head to the download page for Epic Games Launcher and choose your operating system. Whether it be Mac or Windows. Once it’s downloaded, open it and log in to the account that you created in the previous step.
You can find the tab for Fortnite at the top of the launcher. Choose install, select your install location and let it do its thing. The install size for Fortnite is currently around 10 GB. Once installed, hit the Launch button and you’re ready to go!

The first screen you’ll come across is where you choose whether you want to play the PvE Co-Op or Battle Royale. Make sure to choose Battle Royale unless you plan on purchasing PvE.
Configuring Fortnite
When Fortnite is open, make sure to adjust your settings such as mouse sensitivity and controls. The settings menu can be found in the top right. Adjust your graphics to ensure the game runs smooth, enable or disable voice chat and change other settings like your crosshair.

You are now able to search for games, whether solo or in a party and begin levelling and working up your Battle Pass!
