GamingHow to Change Companion Behaviour in The Outer Worlds

Companions in The Outer Worlds are your followers. They’ll go on missions with you, fight for you and even give you advice in some difficult scenarios. You can take 2 companions out with you on adventures at any time.

What you might not know, is that you have a bit of control over your companions. You can change settings like how far away they should follow you, and how they behave. Specifically whether they should be aggressive or passive.

Below, we’ve put together a very short guide showing where to change these settings. For more guides & content for The Outer Worlds on PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One, make sure to check out our dedicated area here!

Change Companion Settings in The Outer Worlds

Firstly, open up your character menu. This is the menu where you will find the map, your inventory etc. You can open it up by pressing TAB on PC. At the top of the screen, you will find a lot of interface options, with the very last ones being your companions names.

Companion Settings

Choose the companion you want to configure, and look at the ‘Behaviours’ settings on the left hand side. There are options for distance, weapon modes and mode. Specifically, we want to change the mode, which you can switch between Passive, Defensive and Aggressive.
