GamingHow to Change Your Name in Halo Master Chief Collection

If you’re playing on PC, you might have noticed that the Halo Master Chief Collection isn’t using your Steam name. That’s because it uses the name set-up on your Xbox profile, which is associated with the Microsoft account you used to sign-in to the game.

Here, we’ll show you how to change your name in Halo MCC. Unfortunately, you can’t do this from the game menu. If you have instead signed into the wrong account and want to switch, we have a guide available for that too.

This guide is suitable for the Halo Master Chief Collection, which includes Halo Reach, Halo Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST and Halo 4. For more Halo MCC Guides, make sure to check out our dedicated area here!

Changing Name in Halo MCC

Firstly, head to account.xbox.com and sign-in to your Microsoft account. This has to be the same account that you’re currently playing Halo Master Chief Collection with.

Sign-in on the Xbox Website

Once signed in, you’ll be taken to the Xbox homepage. In the top-right corner of the screen, you’ll see your Xbox Gamertag. Press your name, and choose ‘Xbox Profile’. Now you’ll see your name, avatar, friends list etc.

Press the ‘Customise’ button, then press the pen icon next to your Gamertag on the next screen. If you can’t find this menu, you can try heading to this link https://social.xbox.com/ChangeGamerTag which will take you to the Change Gamertag screen directly, but make sure you’re signed in first.

Choose a new Gamertag

Enter your desired Gamertag and check availability. Supposedly, only your first name change on Xbox is free, after that you’ll have to pay, so choose wisely. That’s it, you’ve changed your name!

Changes might not take effect in Halo immediately. You should give it around 10 minutes or so. If that doesn’t work, sign out and back in to the same account, which should refresh it.
