Beehives are one of Minecrafts newest blocks, added in the 1.15 Update. They provide a place for your Bees to live, as will as create Honey. Beehives can be crafted by the player using Wood and Honeycomb.
If you can’t get these materials, then you will need to look for Bee Nests instead, which are the same but will spawn naturally in-game.
Below, we’ve put together a guide for crafting Beehives in Minecraft on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Pocket Edition and Nintendo Switch. For more Minecraft Guides and best-of content, make sure to check out our dedicated area here!
How to Craft Beehives in Minecraft
To craft a Beehive in Minecraft, start by opening the Crafting Table. Add 3 Wooden Planks along the top row (any variant of Wooden Planks), and do the same along the bottom row. In the middle 3 slots, add 3 Honey Comb.

Once you’ve done that, you can collect the Beehive from the Crafting Table. Place it down anywhere, but hanging from a tree is going to be best. Any bees in the area will head towards it, and make it their own home. A Beehive can house up to 3 bees at a time.
How to Get Honeycomb
The recipe for a Beehive requires 3 Honeycomb. Unfortunately, Honeycomb can’t be crafted in Minecraft, and instead has to be found. The only way to get Honeycomb in Minecraft is by using a set of Shears on an existing Beehive.

Now your question is probably ‘how do I get honeycomb if I don’t have a Beehive’. Well, there is another type of Beehive that spawns naturally in the game-world, and these are called ‘Bee Nests’.
It does the exact same thing as a Hive, except it can’t be crafted and spawns naturally in plains biomes. You will have to find one of these and collect Honeycomb from it.
How to Bring Bees to the Hive
You can breed Bees in Minecraft by giving them flowers. This is probably the easiest way to get more Bees to come to your Hive. Bees will take 20 minutes to become adult, and this process can be sped up by using flowers.
If you don’t have any bees to breed, you will have to find some in the game world. You should search in Plains biomes, as this is where they mostly spawn. Using a lead, you can bring them back to your base. You can also hold flowers, and they will follow you.
How to Collect Honey from Beehives
When a Bee pollinates, it will fly into the Beehive to create Honey. Once it exits, it will have increased the Honey level by 1. At level 5, the Beehive will be full of Honey, its appearance will change and the player will be able to harvest it.
You can use Shears to collect Honeycomb from the Hive. Alternatively, interact with the Hive using Glass Bottles to collect Bottles of Honey. When you collect Honey from a Hive, Bees will become hostile. To stop this, you need to place a Campfire underneath the Hive.
