Just like the previous game, Borderlands 3 offers a lot when it comes to character customization. It’s no surprise that the ‘heads’ have returned, allowing you to completely change the top portion of your character.

Heads can be found in the game world, dropped as loot from enemies or given as quest rewards. And once obtained, they’ll need to be activated in your inventory to be usable.

Below, we’ve put together a short guide for equipping head cosmetic items in Borderlands 3. For more Borderlands 3 Guides & Best-of content for PS4, PC and Xbox One, make sure to check out our dedicated area here

Equipping Heads in Borderlands 3

To equip any heads you have unlocked in Borderlands 3, you will need to use a Quick Change machine. These can be found in many locations, with them having a minimap icon. However one of the most accessible machines early in the game is at Crimson Command, which is where Lilith is.

Use a Quick Change Machine

Interact with a Quick Change Machine. You will see a lot of customization options available for your character. Choose the ‘Heads’ option. A List of heads that you have currently unlocked will be available, all you have to do is select one.

Equipping a head

If you believe heads are missing, check your inventory. You will need to ‘activate’ them first before they will be visible in the Quick Change machine.
