How to Get Honeycomb in Minecraft

To Collect Honeycomb in Minecraft, all you have to do is use shears on a Beehive or Bee Nests. Bee Nests spawn naturally in the game world, Bee Hives are the exact same thing, but you craft them instead. When you have found one, interact with a Beehive whilst holding Shears for it to drop 3 Honeycomb.

You can only harvest Honeycomb from a Beehive when it is at Level 5. Every time a Bee pollinates, goes inside the Hive and works, it increases the Level by 1. You will know when it’s at Level 5 as the appearance of the Hive will change to show it’s flowing with Honey.

What is Honeycomb Used For in Minecraft?

This first, and most important use for Honeycomb is to craft new Beehives. For every 3 Honeycomb, you can craft additional Hives, allowing you to have more Bees, resulting in more Honey. The recipe for this is 3 Honeycomb across the middle row in a Crafting Table, then surrounded by Wooden Planks.

This is the only way to get additional Hives without finding them. The other use for Honeycomb is to use 4 of them to create a Honeycomb block which is purely a decorative item.

Stop Bees Getting Aggressive

When you attempt to harvest a Bee Hive in Minecraft, whether it be for Honey Bottles or Honeycomb, Bee’s will become aggressive. All Bee’s that belong to that Hive will immediately start attacking you.

Placing a Campfire under a Hive prevents aggression

The only way to stop this is by placing a Campfire underneath a Beehive. As long as there isn’t a 5 block high gap between the Campfire and Hive, Bee’s won’t attack you for harvesting their honey.

How to Make Shears in Minecraft

The only item you’ll need to collect Honeycomb in Minecraft is Shears. Luckily, they’re super cheap and easy to create, all you’ll need is 2 Iron Ingots. In a Crafting Table, place the two Iron Ingots together in a diagonal layout, and you’ll receive some Shears.
