If you’re a big RPG fan, you should be familiar with Carry Weight mechanics by now. In The Outer Worlds, you will become Over Encumbered when your inventory is full, meaning you can no longer sprint (and fast travel without the right skills).
Having Companions in your party will naturally increase your carry weight. However there are also skills which can be unlocked repeatedly throughout the game.
Below, we’ll show you how to increase carry weight, with tips for inventory management. For more guides & content for The Outer Worlds on PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One, make sure to check out our dedicated area here!
Increasing Carry Weight
You can c heck your carry weight at any time by opening your inventory and checking the top left corner. The easiest way to increase the amount you can carry is by choosing the right perks.
For every 2 levels, you get 1 perk point which can be used to in the character menu. Unlocking the perk Pack Mule for example, provides you with an extra 50KG carry weight which will definitely help. Prioritise these types of perks if you’re struggling.

Now, there are a few things you can do to help relieve your carry weight problems. Unfortunately, you can’t trade with companions so there is no way to get them to carry stuff for you. It’s a good idea to go to vending machines often to sell unwanted items, or use the ‘Break Down’ mechanic to turn items into Weapon and Armor Parts.
