These days, lots of Minecraft Modpacks are uploaded to CurseForge, which allows users to install them with just the click of a button. On my own videos, many viewers state that they don’t know how to use CurseForge, or at least use it properly.
This guide will cover how to get started with installing CurseForge, and then installing your first modpack.
Step 1: Install CurseForge
The first thing we need to do is install the CurseForge App, otherwise referred to as the CurseForge Launcher. It’s available for both Windows and Mac OS, and you can download it from the official website by pressing the button below.
Go through the installation process, and open CurseForge when you’re finished.
Step 2: Select a Game
The next step is to head to the ‘Choose a Game’ screen, which might already be open. This screen shows a list of games that CurseForge supports, and can be accessed by simply pressing the Home button, which looks like the CurseForge Anvil in the top left corner of the application.
Minecraft should be on this list, so make sure to select it.
Step 3: Install a Modpack
There are two ways to install Minecraft Modpacks. They can either be directly installed through the CurseForge application, or through the website instead.
Installing Through the App
At the top of the CurseForge app, whilst you’re in the Minecraft area, press the ‘Browse Modpacks’ button. You’ll be taken to a screen similar to the image below, which shows some of the most popular packs.
There’s a few things to notice, with the first being the filters. At the top of the modpack list, you can sort between things like popularity, categories and game versions. There’s also a search bar at the top where you can search for packs, so you can type ‘PwrDown’ here to see some of my own.
When you have found the pack you want, press the orange Install button. Then press the ‘My Modpacks’ button at the top of the screen. The modpack will begin to download, and once it’s finished, you can just press the play button when hovering over it to start playing it.
From the Website
If you’re downloading a modpack you’ve found on the CurseForge website, the process is only a little different. For this example, I’ve chosen my own Zombie Apocalypse Pack, which is available for Minecraft 1.16.5.
When on a modpacks page, go over to the ‘Files’ tab, which can be found at the top of the screen.
If you have CurseForge installed already, then all you need to do is press the orange Install button shown on the page. This should cause the pack to start downloading in the CurseForge app. You might receive a popup asking if you want to allow this, in which case you should choose yes. Once the pack is downloaded, press the play button.
Step 4: Play the Modpack
The Minecraft Launcher should open, with the modpack selected in the bottom left corner of it. This is different to the regular launcher you use, and it won’t have your world saves, resource packs, shader packs etc.
When you press the Play button, Minecraft will start loading up with your selected modpack.
