Optifine is an optimization mod that is available for Minecraft. It provides many features that can either make your Minecraft game run much faster, or look much more beautiful. It can provide an FPS Boost, increase render distance, allow control over anisotropic filtering and anti aliasing and much more.
However, one of the main reasons people choose to install Optifine is due to its support for Shaders, allowing you to completely change the overall appearance of Minecraft making it look more realistic and beautiful. The image below shows an example of a shader in action.
The good news is Optifine is now supported for Minecraft 1.14 through preview versions. We’ll show you below how to install it and get started. If you want to check out some more Minecraft content, make sure to view our dedicated area here.
Installing Optifine on Minecraft 1.14
So firstly, Optifine can only be installed on the PC Version of Minecraft, also known as Java Edition. Head to the Official Optifine website, and you should be on the ‘Downloads’ page. At the time of this article, the latest version should say Minecraft 1.13.2.
Press the ‘Preview Versions’ button located at the top of the page and download the latest Optifine Version for 1.14. At the time of this article, the latest version is “OptiFine 1.14.2 HD U F1 pre13”. Just press the ‘Download’ button.
A .jar file will download to your computer, open this file. The Optifine Installer will be opened, all you need to do is ensure that the Folder location is correct and that it’s set to your Minecraft directory.
If it is, hit the ‘Install’ button. It should only take a moment, now you can open the Minecraft Launcher.
Press the small green arrow located next to the ‘Play’ button. One of the options will be Optifine. Choose this option and then press play, that’s it. You’re now running Minecraft with Optifine which can be configured in the games Video Settings. You can also go ahead and start installing Shaders.
