In Borderlands 3, it’s possible to join online sessions at random, allowing you to quest with people who are around the same level as you. Whilst this doesn’t just make progression much faster, it also allows you to possibly make some friends to run through the game with!
This guide is more about joining sessions. We’ve covered how to open your Borderlands 3 game to the public in a separate guide. You should do this if you want random people to join your own game.

How to do Matchmaking in Borderlands 3
Firstly, head to the Social Menu. To do this, open up the Main Menu by pressing ESC on PC (or START on a PS4/Xbox One), then choose ‘Social’.

The first screen that you will see will be the Roster screen, where you can invite friends. Using the tabs at the top left, move over to the right once, bringing you to the ‘Matchmaking’ section.

Now all you have to do is press start. The game will automatically put you into an online game with other players who are around your level.
If you want to open your own game, press the cogs in the top right corner of the screen near your portrait and open your game to ‘Public’.
