A lead (also known as a leash) is an incredibly useful item in Minecraft. It allows you to tie up mobs and animals and walk them around. You’ll often need them if you’re creating a farm and want to bring animals back.
They’re much easier than using seeds, as animals won’t get distracted and walk away. Using a lead, you can also tie up animals such as horses to fence posts so that they don’t wonder off.
In this quick guide, we’ll show you how to craft a Lead in Minecraft. For more Minecraft Guides & Best-of lists including Seeds and Resource Packs, make sure to check out our dedicated area here!
Crafting a Lead in Minecraft
To craft a Lead in Minecraft, you will require Slimeball. You can obtain Slimeballs from killing Slimes, which can be found in Swamp biomes and deep underground.
Open a Crafting Table and place a single Slimeball in the middle slot. You will also need 4 string, place one in the top left slot, and one in each adjoining slot. Then place the final piece of string in the bottom right corner, this will give you 2 Leads.
Using a Lead is simple. Hover over it in your hotbar, then interact with a mob in order to tether to it. The mob will now follow you, and you can tie it up by right clicking on a fence post.
If you haven’t found any Slimes yet, then you can also find Leads in Woodland Mansions, or killing a wondering trader will drop 2 leads.
