Melee has proven itself to be very powerful in Halo Master Chief Collection, often being able to finish off enemies in a single hit. Always try to get close enough to an enemy and execute a melee attack. It will be the strongest blow you could possibly deal.
If you’ve just come from another FPS, you might be wondering what the default key is to do a melee attack in Halo. Well, by default, that key is Q. It’s perfectly positioned so that you can tap it quickly whilst running forward.
This guide is suitable for the Halo Master Chief Collection, which includes Halo Reach, Halo Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST and Halo 4. For more Halo MCC Guides, make sure to check out our dedicated area here!
How to Change Melee Keybind
If you’re not happy using Q as default, you can change your keybinds at any time. Just follow the steps below. Start by opening the Settings menu, which you can do by pressing the Cog icon in the lower right hand corner of the screen in the main menu.

Next, choose the ‘Controls’ tab at the top of the screen. Press the ‘Select’ button next to ‘Configure Mouse and Keyboard’. At the top of the screen, you should then see a ‘Configure Bindings’ button.

Under the ‘Actions’ area, you should spot Melee which will should be bound to Q. Just press the Q button and press the key or mouse button you want to bind it to instead. Exit the menu to save your changes.
