GamingHow to Scrap & Recycle Weapons in The Outer Worlds

One of the mechanics in The Outer Worlds is ‘Breaking Down’ items, specifically armor and weapons. You can scrap these items so that you receive parts back, meaning that you’re basically recycling them.

With these parts, they can be used to repair other weapons later on after the durability starts to take a hit. It’s always better to scrap weapons instead of selling them, as there are many other ways to obtain Bits.

Below, we’ve put together a quick guide for scrapping weapons in The Outer Worlds. For more guides & content on PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One, make sure to check out our dedicated area here!

Breaking Down Weapons in The Outer Worlds

To start scrapping weapons, you need to open a Workbench. They look like the image below, and have their own minimap icon. Whilst they can be found in most towns, the easiest place to find one would be on your player ship, which you unlock after a few starter missions.

Once in the Workbench, head on over to the last tab in the menu, called ‘Break Down’. Here, you can break down both weapons and armor pieces, to get Weapon Parts and Armor Parts respectively.

Make sure you only scrap items you know you don’t want, as there is no undo button. On the right side of the screen, you can see the number of Weapon parts you will receive for breaking down the weapon.
