The gun-play in Borderlands 3 feels amazing and incredibly satisfying. Especially with the use of a keyboard and mouse where you can really pinpoint your aim and accuracy.
Although if you’re a couch gamer, or looking to just relax whilst you play a session, playing with a controller is always an option on PC. Although the configurations are defaulted to an Xbox Controller, it’s likely any setup will work.
There are some options you’ll need to configure, but we’ve listed them out below. For more Borderlands 3 Guides & Best-of content for PS4, PC and Xbox One, make sure to check out our dedicated area here!
Using a Controller in Borderlands 3
First, we need to check if using a controller is actually enabled for the game. To do this, head to the Controls menu. Open up the main menu by pressing ESC on PC and choose ‘Options’. From there, press the ‘Controls’ button.

In this next window, we can completely configure the control settings for Borderlands 3 using the tabs at the top of the screen. The first tab is labelled ‘Basic’. Look for the option labelled ‘Enable Controller’, and ensure this is set to ‘On’.
Next, using the tabs at the top, go along to the controller configuration. The button actually looks like a controller. In here, you can configure your preset or set up your own custom configuration.
