Consumables are items that you can use in The Outer Worlds which provide stats to your character. They offer a lot of different effects, such as increasing health regeneration, amplifying perks and increasing skills for a short amount of time.

You will find consumable items all over the game world. Off bodies, inside of containers and they can also be bought from stores and vending machines.

Below, we will show you how to use consumables in TOW. For more guides & content for The Outer Worlds on PC, PS4, Switch and Xbox One, make sure to check out our dedicated area here!

Using Consumables

Open up your inventory by pressing TAB on PC, then head over to the ‘Medical’ tab, the icon is a small cross. In here, you can see all of the items you can use. Hover over each one to see the bonus it gives, and to use them on the fly.

At the top of the screen is a hot-bar, where you can equip multiple of these consumables. Now how this works, is when you press the heal button (F on PC), it will use all of these items on the hot-bar at once.

Level up the Medical Skill

By default, you will only be able to equip one item on the medical hot-bar. However, by upgrading the ‘Medical’ skill found under ‘Tech’, you can unlock additional slots. Unlock these slots at level 20, 40 and 80.
