Minecraft Potion of Weakness Guide: How to Craft, Spash & Use Commands

Potions of Weakness are potions in Minecraft which will reduce the melee attack damage given by its target. This is defaulted to a reduction in damage of 2 hearts, or 0.5 hearts on Bedrock Edition.

In this guide, we’ll show you where to find Potions of Weakness, how to craft them and also how to turn them into Splash Potions. Scroll down to the bottom to find a list of commands to spawn in Splash Potions of Weakness.

This guide is compatible with all versions of Minecraft, including Java Edition, Pocket Edition, Xbox One, PS4 and Nintendo Switch. For more Minecraft Guides & Best-of lists, make sure to check out our dedicated area here!

How to Craft a Potion of Weakness

In simple terms, you can craft a Potion of Weakness by placing a Fermented Spider Eye in the top slot of a Brewing Stand, whilst adding Blaze Powder to the fuel slot and Water Bottles in the bottom slot.

You can then turn it into a Splash Potion by adding Gunpowder to the Potion in the Brewing Stand. If you want a more detailed guide with screenshots and recipes, keep reading.

1. Craft a Brewing Stand

Firstly, you will need to craft a Brewing Stand. It’s used to brew all potions in Minecraft, and can be crafted or found in-game. They can be naturally found inside of Igloos (even with a Splash Potion of Weakness already inside) and Villager Temples.

If instead you want to craft a Brewing Stand, you will require 3 Cobblestone and a Blaze Rod, which can be obtained from the Nether by killing Blazes. Place the 3 Cobblestone along the bottom 3 slots of a Crafting Table, and a Blaze Rod in the centre. Use the image above for reference.

2. Craft a Potion of Weakness

Open the Brewing Stand, and place a Water Bottle in one of the bottom 3 slots. You only need to place a single Water Bottle to get a single Potion of Weakness back. Water Bottles can be obtained by placing 3 Glass inside a Crafting Table in a triangular shape to receive 3 Glass Bottles. Fill them with water to turn them into Water Bottles.

In the top centre slot, add a Fermented Spider Eye. These can be crafted by combining a Spider Eye, Sugar and Brown Mushroom inside of a Crafting Table. Finally, place Blaze Powder in the far left slot, which essentially acts as a fuel. Blaze Powder can be obtained by placing a Blaze Rod inside a Crafting Table, which will net 2 Blaze Powder.

Brewing a Potion of Weakness

With all these items placed, the Potion should begin to brew. After a few seconds, you will have a Potion of Weakness.

Turning it into a Splash Potion

If you want to then turn your Potion of Weakness into a Splash Potion of Weakness, it’s fairly simple to do. Normal Potions can only be used by the person holding them, whereas Splash Potions can be thrown at other players.

Making a Splash Potion of Weakness

Open up the Brewing Stand again and add your Potion of Weakness into any of the bottom 3 Slots. In the top slot, add a single piece of Gunpowder, which will convert Potions into Splash Potions. With your Splash Potion in hand, you can then throw it at other players or mobs.

Splash Potion of Weakness with Commands

You can also spawn Splash Potions of Weakness in Minecraft with the use of commands. This will give you the actual potion object, and not the effect.
