GamingRed Dead Redemption 2: How to Brake & Slow Down on Horse

If you’re going too fast on your horse in Red Dead Redemption 2, you are able to slow down and even come to a complete stop. You don’t just control the horse using an analogue stick.

Instead, if you hold R1 on PS4, or RB on Xbox One, your horse will slow in speed dramatically. Whilst you can just tap it or hold for short amounts to slow the speed slightly.

If you want, you can increase the speed of your horse all the time in many ways. You can purchase a horse which is faster, or upgrade the components on your current horse by heading to the stables.

As you bond with your horse, you will unlock new abilities and maneuvers. Whilst also increasing stamina and health, allowing your horse to run much greater distances. Here are the upgrades and maneuvers you receive for increasing the bonding level:

  1. After reaching level 2, you can hold R1 and tab Square/X to to Rear whilst stationary.
  2. At level 3, hold R1 and X/A whilst moving to skid turn or skid stop.
  3. When reaching level 4, you can hold Square/X to perform a Piaffe. Move the left analogue to drift.

Hopefully this post helped you with controlling your horse in Red Dead Redemption 2! If you liked this content, we’ve covered more for the game here.
