There are multiple types of ammunition available in Red Dead Redemption 2. With each weapon type having their own types. Switching between these changes how your gun performs.
For example, when using a repeater, you can use regular rounds, express rounds and high velocity rounds. With high velocity doing the most damage. When you switch between the ammo types, you will see stats increase or decrease.
Below, we have a quick guide for switching ammunition in Red Dead Redemption 2. Whilst we have covered more guides for the game here.
Changing Ammo Rounds
To start, open up the weapons wheel and find the weapon you want to switch rounds for. You will see a list of stats in the middle, whilst at the bottom, you can see the ammunition type it’s currently using and how many you have.

To switch between the ammo types, use the D-Pad left and right, whilst still hovering over the weapon. You will see the stats in the center change.

On the image above, I’ve switched to slugs. Which has slightly increased the range and accuracy of my shotgun. You can loot these special ammo types from corpses and robberies. However you can also buy them from the gunsmith in town, and they’re relatively cheap.
