One of the missions you complete early on in Red Dead Redemption 2 is making a campfire. You’ll do this mission as you are introduced to hunting in Chapter 2.
By doing so, you can rest anywhere in the game world and cook any meat inside your inventory. It’s incredibly useful for if you want to wait until morning or replenish your cores overnight.
Below, we have a quick guide on how to make a campfire in Red Dead Redemption 2. Whilst we’ve covered many more guides for the game here.
Making a Campfire
To make a Campfire, open up your item wheel by holding L1 on PS4 or LB on Xbox. Move from the ‘Weapons’ section into the ‘Items’ section.

At the bottom of the wheel, you’ll notice the camp which can be built. If it’s not there, you may need to use L2 or R2 to alternate through the items. If you haven’t done the introductory mission to the camp, you may not have unlocked it yet either.

Arthur will craft a camp where you’re currently standing. From there, you can choose to sleep, craft and cook. Whilst you can also dismantle the campfire when you’re done with it.
