One of the actual mechanics in Red Dead Redemption 2 is keeping yourself clean. You’ll need to wash your entire body, especially your face. Each time you come into camp dirty, you’ll be pulled aside and told to wash.
Bathing helps regenerate cores. Plus, if you’re too smelly, you will have flies constantly around you, predators may have an easier time finding you and people in general won’t want to be near you. Especially in camp.
You can combat all this by washing and cleaning yourself. You’re introduced briefly on how to do this early into the game, but we’ve made a quick guide below for taking a bath. Whilst we’ve made a few more guides for Red Dead Redemption 2 here.
Washing Yourself
The easiest way to wash yourself would be to clean your face. In town, you may find a barrel filled with water. You can use this to wash the dirt off your face. If you’re wanting to clean your body/clothes, you can try going into a river. Although it’s not confirmed whether this works as well as a bath.
To take a bath, head to the nearest hotel. You will find hotels in towns. If you’re near the start of the game, the nearest town will be valentine.

You can rent a room here for $1, or get access to the bath for $0.25 (25 cents). You don’t need to rent the room, but it may be a good idea, especially if it’s dark.
Once you’ve bought access to the bath, head to the icon in the hotel. It’s usually through the door behind the receptionist.

You can jump in the bath, and begin to wash individual body parts. Whilst a maid will also come and ask if you’d like a deluxe bath. Once it’s over, Arthur will be all clean!
