Similar to GTA V Online where you can lock your vehicle, in Red Dead Redemption 2, you can prevent access to your horse from other players. This helps prevent it getting stolen and hard to get back.
There are a few different access options available. If you’re doing a mission with friends, you can allow access just to them. Or you can set it so only you can ride your horse.
Below, we have a quick guide for changing the horse access and lock settings in Red Dead Redemption 2. If you want to check out some more guides for the game, check our dedicated section here.
Change Horse Access Settings
Open up the player menu in Red Dead Redemption 2 Online. You can do this by pressing the left D-Pad button on your controller. The menu below will open up, choose the ‘Stables’ setting.

Look for the ‘Horse Access’ option, it will be on that first page. By default, it will set to Everyone. Navigate through and choose who you want to be able to ride your horse.

Whilst you’re there, you may aswell change the setting for ‘Allow leading’, which allows other players to lead your horse. Each time you go into an online game, check these settings as it’s possible that they’ll reset to ‘Everyone’ each time.
