SCUM is an early access game, meaning there are more updates and optimisations to come in the future. Right now though, the game can be demanding for some people. Currently, there is no FPS counter built in to the game.
That doesn’t mean we can’t use an external one though. Specifically, one that is built into the Steam platform. It will add a small FPS counter in one of the corners so you can keep track.
We have a quick guide below for enabling the FPS Counter. Whilst we have covered a few more guides for SCUM available here.
Enabling FPS Counter in SCUM
You don’t need SCUM to be running to enable the FPS Counter. Instead, open up the Steam client. In the top left corner, click the ‘Steam’ button in the navigation menu, then hit Settings.

You will be taken to a screen similar to the image above. This is with Steams default skin. On the left hand side, choose the ‘In-Game’ option, then look for ‘In-game FPS Counter’. I’ve highlighted it with a red square above.
You can choose a position for the counter, which is in one of the corners of the screen. Whilst below, you have the option to enable ‘High contrast color’. This just means the counter will be neon green against a black background, so that you can see it at all times. Make sure to hit OK at the bottom to save your changes.
