When you first play The Forest, you will notice you have a few bars to manage in the bottom right corner of your HUD. These are your Hunger, Thirst, Health and Energy. Luckily, they’re all relatively easy to keep on top of. However if one of them does drop too low, chances are that your character will die.
In this guide, we’re going to show you how to drink water and control your thirst in The Forest. Your thirst levels looks like a droplet, found in the bottom right of the screen. You can check out some more guides for The Forest here.
Energy Drinks
One of the first ways to fill your thirst is by drinking energy drinks. As soon as you step out of the plane, you will notice a load of suitcases scattered around.
Hit them with your axe by pointing downwards and search them. Inside, you’ll have a chance of finding some energy drinks. Drinking these will both fill up your thirst meter and also restore some energy.
If you clear every case around the plane, don’t worry. Chances are that you will find some more suitcases when you are out exploring, usually around cannibal camps. Until then, we can come up with a more permanent water solution.
Rain Collectors
Once you have decided on a base location, either one that’s temporary or permanent, you want to set up some rain collectors. These can be found in your survival book by pressing B. Check under the Food & Water section.

Creating a single rain collector costs 4 sticks and 1 turtle shell. You can get turtle shells from killing turtles with your axe. You can usually find turtles strolling around beaches and the coast all the time.

Rain collectors will only fill up when it rains, so I suggest you set these up as soon as possible. Build multiple to build a nice stockpile. That covers this guide on how to drink water in The Forest!
To drink water in The Forest, all you have to do now is walk up to a full rain collector and interact with it to start drinking. It will slowly refill your thirst metre, make sure to do this often.
