Fallout 4Fallout 4 GuidesWhere to Find Fallout 4 Save Location & Files

If you’re modding Fallout 4 or changing some of the settings outside of the game, you will need to find the location of the save files. Why? Because located next to the save files are the games main configuration files, also known as ini files.

If you’re about to make some major changes to the game, you’ll probably want to back up your saves which you can do by simply copying them and moving them to another folder. Later on when you want to restore a save, just paste it back into the folder and you’ll be able to load it up.

Otherwise, maybe you just want to mass delete some old saves for organisation. All you have to do is delete the files and it won’t corrupt or mess up your game.

Finding Fallout 4 Save Location

On Windows, you can find your save game files in ‘My Documents’. This is a library folder on your computer where most documents and save files are stored, you’ll specifically want to look inside the ‘My Games’ folder once inside ‘My Documents’.

Inside the ‘My Games’ folder, you should now be able to spot the Fallout4 folder. Inside, there are ini configuration files such as Fallout4.ini, Fallout4Custom.ini and Fallout4Prefs.ini which you might want to edit if you are modding or customizing your game.

Finally, you can find your saves inside the ‘Saves’ folder. These are .FOS files, and you can choose to delete them or back them up in another folder if you are going to make some heavy changes to your game. You might also want to load them up into a dedicated save editor.
