Basic Fire Stick Remote Controls for Kodi

Below, you can find a graphic that shows what the controls do on the Fire Stick Remote when using Kodi.

One thing you should note is that the Alexa Voice control on the Fire TV Remote doesn’t work. You can use it to say ‘Open Kodi’, but you can’t use it within Kodi currently.

Before we start

PwrDown highly recommends you use a VPN when using Kodi. IPVanish is one of the only top tier VPNs and it’s tailored specifically for Kodi users. It works on almost all devices including the Amazon Fire Stick. As stated on their site, using IPVanish will:
  • Mask your IP Address & Hide your streaming habits.
  • Prevent your ISP from spying on you.
  • Make your online presence anonymous.
  • Allow access to blocked add-ons & content from other countries.

Kodi Fire Stick Remote Controls

Above you can see the basic controls for Kodi when using Amazon’s Fire Stick remote. Pressing the Home button will take you back to the Fire Stick home screen, and does not work inside Kodi. Alexa voice control also doesn’t seem to work inside Kodi.

Use the Menu/Context button to configure add-ons and open settings menus within Kodi. You can also use the back button to navigate through menus and retrace your steps.

Finally, at the bottom of the remote are Play/Pause, rewind and fast forward buttons. Double tap the home button to get quick access to Kodi too when on the Fire Stick home screen.

If you loose your remote, you can use the Fire TV Remote app on the App Store on your mobile to replace it.
