Kodi Rapier Skin

Review

The Kodi Rapier Skin can be found in the default repository, so it’s simple to install in V17 of Kodi. It looks pretty basic in terms of appearance, using the default background image from Confluence (the blue circles). There is a large navigation bar at the bottom which has a smaller navigation menu above it, for ease of use. When you hover over an object, the main portion of the screen fills up with relevant information, for example when hovering over movies I can see “recently added movies”, “In cinemas” and “Upcoming movies”.

Something I do like about this skin which I haven’t seen in any others as of yet is when I enter a section such as Movies, there is a bar along the top where I can choose sorting options, view type and settings. This menu is normally hidden away and you have to scroll off to to the side to get to it. As well as this, are also a load of other options which allow you to customise your library there and then, which is pretty neat.

Rapier is a fast skin, and is simple to use, offering a wide range of features, ones which I haven’t seen any other skin offer. I do think it could do with a redesign in some places, such as the large icons which can be seen under each category. In my opinion, it could also do with trying to create it’s own unique style instead of being similar to a lot of other skins, which would make it more memorable.

Installation

These instructions assume you are installing from Kodi V17 and the default Estuary skin.

  1. Go into Settings (The cog in the top centre of the home screen).
  2. Select “Interface Settings”.
  3. Make sure you’re in the Skin section, and then on the right, select the “Skin” option.
  4. Choose “Get More…” on the right.
  5. Scroll down and look for Rapier.
  6. Let it install!
