SCUM can be a bit confusing when you first start playing. One thing I kept trying to do was sprint so that I could travel faster and escape from enemies. With most games, you're used to doing this by holding down Left Shift.
Although in SCUM, it's completely different. I found the solution by looking through the controls. Finding out that you can increase your movement up so that you are sprinting, or make it slower so that you are walking.
Increasing your movement speed will drain your stamina, which will passively climb back up. Below, we have a quick guide for sprinting and walking in SCUM. Whilst we have covered a few more guides for the game here at PwrDown.
Sprinting in SCUM
Taking a look at the control settings, you can find the actual way to sprint in the game. Instead of using a keyboard button, you actually use your mouse....
SCUM is a pretty deep survival game. You have to keep an eye on your character by looking at his metabolism. You can do this by pressing TAB to go to the inventory screen, then choosing 'Metabolism' at the top.
You can check how sick your character is and how many nutrients they're getting. Eventually, you'll have to empty your system by either peeing (pissing), pooping or vomiting. A few players where struggling on how to actually do this.
Luckily, we have made a quick guide below for you to check out. Whilst we have made a few more guides for SCUM.
Using the toilet in SCUM
To either pee, poop or vomit, you need to access the toilet menu. It can be found in the quick access menu, which looks like the screenshot below.
To do that, hold down the TAB key. If you press the TAB key once, it will open up...
SCUM is an early access title, meaning it's an unfinished game essentially. Like most other early access titles, optimisation can sometimes be poor. I know I struggle to run the game on the higher settings.
Thankfully, there are a few steps you can take to make the game run faster and smoother. They mostly consist of lowering graphics settings. Although a few changes to what you are running on your PC can also help.
Below, we have a guide on how to achieve the highest possible FPS on SCUM. Whilst we have covered a few more guides available here.
Start by adjusting the graphics settings. Do this by going to the settings menu, then into the Video section. You can use the 'Low' preset, but some things still need adjusting. Just go down the list and make sure everything is set to 'Low'. Some options have medium as the lowest possible...
One thing I found to be quite obnoxious in SCUM was the motion blur. It's incredibly distracting and makes it hard to even see whats going on when just looking around.
By default, motion blur is enabled. If you choose to disable it and then switch to one of the graphics presets, it will enable itself again. Thankfully, it can be disabled really easily. I heavily suggest doing so, as it looks bad, especially with low FPS.
Below, we have a quick guide on how to switch off motion blue in SCUM. Whilst we have some more guides for the game, available here!
Disable Motion Blur
To start, open up the games settings. You can do this in-game by pressing Escape. From there, choose 'Video'.
This will allow you to edit all the graphics and video settings for SCUM. You should take a look through each settings, especially if you are suffering from lag...
SCUM was recently released on Steam as an early access title. The game can feel quite intimidating as it has a lot of deep survival tactics. There are plenty of controls to learn.
At any point, you can take a look at the controls in-game by pressing Escape, heading to Settings then Controls. Luckily, the game was released with the ability to change the bindings to anything you want.
At the moment, it doesn't seem like there is any support for Xbox One or PS4 controllers. Although this could come at a later date with the game being in early access.
Below, you can see the list of default controls for SCUM. Whilst we have covered a few more guides for the game, available here.
Crouch/Dive in: C
Increase/Decrease movement speed: Scroll whee up/down
Lean Left/Right: Q/E
Punch/Kick: Left mouse button
Block: Right mouse button
Push to talk is how you communicate with other players in SCUM. By holding down a key on your keyboard and talking through your microphone, you can talk to other people who are nearby.
With SCUM being in early access, there are some features missing from the game. One of those being the option to disable voice chat all together. Although it's likely we'll see changes to VoIP in future updates.
For now though, you have a little control over the voice chat settings, primarily when using push to talk. You can see our quick guide below, whilst we have more guides for the game here at PwrDown.
Using Push to Talk
First off, you need to choose whether you want push to talk enabled or disabled. Do this by heading to the settings menu (by pressing Escape in-game) and choosing Settings. Then select Sound.
The first option you can control is whether you...
